First time I saw Shishkin's paintings around 10 years ago. A friend of mine got a book of his works. Needless to say, I was enchanted by the unbelievable realism and beauty of his work. Somehow, I feel they are Gods. They've created masterpieces in an era when there were hardly any resources or references, such as photography, computer...etc!
There was a big exhibition last year in London at the National which included SHISHKIN. These legendary Russian paintings are rarely seen outside their homeland. I have to say that I am not a fan, although I respect him for his position in art history.
Andrei, do you have anything unusal by ARKHIP KUINJI... AH! Now that will be something to see.
Jafar,I read somewhere that artists gave Shishkin nickname "the photographer". Because He drew so realistic . I have not put his best works. Probably in future I shall put something from his sketches.

He's pictures seem so photorealistic, especially looking at the reproductions, but they only look tediously rendered. I remember seeing one original, on Russian Painting Exhibition in Warsaw. I could not believe how much expression there is in those canvases. They are painted with brave, broad brush strokes, freely and seemingly with ease... Incredible. This one picture has changed my view on Ivan Shihkin. RESPECT!

Now we have everything except talent!
