Extraordinary! We both do a post about Levitan on the same day!

I am trying to find out what he died from at such a young age. Wikipedia says `A terminal disease´. Would you know what it was?

It is astonishing that such a short and difficult life should produce such beauty. He's one of the best in my view.

Who shall we do next? Yakovlev? Roerich? Goryushkin-Skoropudov?

guys, I just checked the book i have on Levitan. The painting ( 10, here ) of a defrosting farm with the quiet horse has been the trigger that first got me into his works. He died of some sort of lung infection, quote :" sometimes i breath like a fish out of water" - I think i remember reading he suffered from a weak constitution most of his lifetime.
Great paintings, great vast open spaces.

Hi, guys! I'm writing about the version (an oil sketch) of Evening bells from Mimara Museum in Zagreb, Croatia. I wonder if anyone knows about real location (as we know, he was depicting actual places). It's the same place as Quiet haven, only without the bridge). I wrote to Tretjakov gallery, but I didn't get the answer. Anyway, any information about the painting would be of much value to me!! Thanks!!
